Traditionally
llamas are used to carry burdens. In the same way, NAMI members help
those experiencing serious brain disorders to carry the many burdens of
mental illness.
Julie Wier of Fairview Heights, IL, who owns nearly a hundred llamas and
has cared for llamas for 23 years attests to the compassionate nature of
the llama.

gives her assurance that ‘llamas are emotional beings. They understand
when you’re sad, and they comfort you.” This notion certainly fits right
in with NAMI’s effort to ‘understand and comfort’ those who suffer from
brain disorders through no fault of their own. Llamas understand when you’re
sad, and they comfort you. |
