| The Second Time Around
Store
has been in
existence for two years, and is run by prosumers, consumers, and a staff
supervisor. One of the goals of the PSR program is to help consumers meet their basic
needs, such as clothing and food.
According to Dee Dee Duke, a prosumer who
works in the store, "When a consumer comes in for a particular need, such as
clothing for a job interview, special occasions, or change in living
conditions, we are here to assist any consumer with their new needs."
Items such as clothing,
food, bedding, kitchen items, and small appliances are donated by NAMI,
Chestnut employees, friends of the Clubhouse, and people within the
community.
Prosumers and consumers who work in the store examine, size, and sort items
before placing them in the store. |

The store is open
several days per week, and items are free of charge to consumers.
The Second Time Around
Store is open to Chestnut consumers and to consumers of other mental health
agencies upon request.
The Second Time Around
store has continued to grow and expand, meanwhile helping consumers meet
their basic needs.
In the year 2003, 923
pieces of clothing were distributed, along with 9 small appliances, over 115
dishes, and many cans of food.
In the year 2004
(January - present time), 1224 items were given away. As the store
continues to grow, consumers have been working to improve the store's
atmosphere by painting the walls. Lights will soon be installed in the
store, as well as a new floor. |
