hen you reach out to others for support NAMI is here to provide it

NAMI is a nationwide organization for families and friends experiencing serious brain disorders (mental illnesses).

NAMI's mission, as a grassroots self-help, support, education and advocacy organization, is to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from these no-fault brain disorders.

How can membership in NAMI of Madison County be helpful to you?

Our NAMI organization is a non-profit support group for the family members and friends of the person with a severe brain disorder (mental illnesses).  Many times we have found that no one is there to listen to our frustration and they seldom realize exactly what we are coping with.

NAMI Madison County provides a "Caring and Sharing" session on a monthly basis as well as educational sessions where we further our knowledge about brain disorders and the services that are available to assist the person with a severe brain disorder.

NAMI's Roadmap to Recovery

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill offers individuals and families a roadmap to recovery, and is ready to serve as your guide because we have already traveled many of the paths in front of you.

We have lived your experience.  We know how to teach you to manage an illness and move toward recovery.  We offer information and support, and an opportunity to join a continuing revolution in scientific advance to understand brain disorders, and the broader revolution that is still needed to ensure access to effective treatment and support in every community.

We also know that there is no disgrace in having a mental illness.  It's no one's fault.  It's not a reflection of integrity or character.  No one is immune.  Brain disorders are illnesses like any other.  Treatments exist.  People do recover.  What is most important is to avoid pretending that the illness doesn't exist or to try to cover it up as if it were our terrible secret.  What is important is to reach out openly to others for support, and NAMI is here to provide it.
