The National
Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
Madison County held
our inaugural "Walk for Mental Health" on Saturday, September 25, 2004. T-shirts with the walk's logo of footprints were given to all
walkers. Great weather and approximately 125 walkers sporting their
t-shirts prevailed at the
Tri-Township
Park in Troy on Saturday.
Madison County Board Chairman, Al Dunstan; Marcia Wickenhauser, Director
of the Madison County 708 Mental Health Board; Orville Mercer, Director
of Chestnut Health Systems; Karen Sopronyi, Director of Community
Counseling Center were some of Madison County officials that attended
the walk.
At the end of the walk there were refreshments under the pavillion and
special thanks and acknowledgement of sponsors by Chairperson Sandy Giger. NAMI Madison County President Pat Rudloff also spoke and told of
different projects going on in celebration of Mental Illness Awareness
Week which is October
3 to October 9.
President Rudloff then presented $500 checks from NAMI Madison
County to both Orville Mercer of Chestnut and Karen Sopronyi of
Community Counseling Center to be given to consumers involved with their
respective organizations. Consumers will decide how to best use the
money for their facilities at the Chestnut Clubhouse and Pathways at
Community Counseling Center. |
